Summer Paid Internship
Do you love kids? Are you excited by the idea of helping children learn to write short stories, graphic novels, songs, films and plays with beginnings, middles, and (drum roll) endings? Writopia Lab, an award-winning 501(c)3 non-profit that runs the country's best creative writing workshops for kids ages 6 to 18, is looking for interns for our DC Metro locations.

Since its formation in New York City in 2007, Writopia Lab has grown into a nationwide community of young writers. Our mission is to foster joy, literacy, and critical thinking in children and teens from all backgrounds through creative writing. We create a safe and engaging space for writers at all stages of the writing process, and we aim to provide the creative inspiration, individual attention, and intellectual environment that may not be available to them at school.
We are hiring interns to help run our full-day programming from 9:30am-4:30pm during the weeks of June 8th through August 14th.

What Interns Do:
Our interns are half teachers, half camp counselors, who are able to serve as role models to our young writers while cultivating their love for writing. For our full-day camp programming, interns lead various electives, converse with our young writers over lunch outside, play literary games, and much more!  Full Day Camp begins with a three hour workshop from 9:30am-12:30pm, led by a published author or playwright, followed by an hour lunch outside, and then creative arts electives from 1:30pm-4:30pm.

Requirements:
  • We are in need of interns who have a background in either art, music, songwriting, or theater as well as a love for creative writing.
  • We are in need of interns who find it easy to be supportive and enthusiastic about young writers' work and who can learn to be thoughtful editors and guides.
  • Completed degrees are NOT required to apply for these internships, and we will accept applicants with majors or minors--or a strong background in--English, Literature, Creative Writing, or Education.
  • Internship training will take place the week of June 1st to 5th, and camps will run from June 8th through August 14th.
  • This is a paid position. Interns generally work 35-40 hours Monday through Friday.

If you are excited by the idea of joining a community of writers and helping children and teens learn to write, please apply! Don’t forget to attach your resume, cover letter, and answer the question “Why do you want to work at Writopia?”
