Description

We are looking for an experienced, innovative, warm, and responsible manager to fill an exciting position with wide-ranging responsibilities at our Tenleytown, DC location. You will run creative writing workshops for kids and teens, develop and manage programs for them, manage employees and interns, work on internal teams, and build and maintain relationships with a variety of partner organizations.

Writopia Lab is a mission-driven organization, and our leaders are charged with carrying that mission to the teams they manage and the young writers in their regions. The best fit for this position is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable speaking in public, and comfortable working with diverse teams. You must also love being around children, and interacting with them on a daily basis. The goal will be to facilitate the effective management of programs according to the organization’s standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Hiring and managing writing instructors

  • Planning and coordinating programs and activities.

  • Ensuring implementation of policies and practices.

  • Building positive relations within the team and external parties.

  • Scheduling and organizing meetings/events and maintaining agenda.

  • Ensuring technology is used correctly for all operations.

  • Preparing paperwork and ordering material.

  • Updating records and creating reports or proposals.

  • Spearheading strategic program development.

  • Leading regional and national projects.

  • Participating in regional marketing events for Writopia Lab.

  • Serving as a core Writopia Sleepaway Camp Instructor or Program Leader (a two-week commitment).

Requirements.

  • Published fiction writer or produced playwright

  • 5 to 10 years of proven experience as program manager in arts education or related field
  • Knowledge of program management and development procedures

  • Tech savvy, proficient in Google docs

  • Comfortable working with diverse and multi-discipline teams

  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

  • Detail oriented and efficient

This is a full-time, exempt position. You will report directly to the Executive Director.
