Overview

Do you love kids? Are you excited by the idea of helping children learn to write short stories and plays with beginnings, middles, and (drum roll) endings? Then look no further: Writopia Lab is looking for interns for our DC lab in Tenleytown. Our interns support Instructors in helping kids express themselves and explore their world through creative writing.

Since its formation in New York City in 2007, Writopia Lab has grown into a nationwide community of young writers and creative writing workshops for kids ages 7 to 18. Our mission is to foster joy, literacy, and critical thinking in children and teens from all backgrounds through creative writing. We create a safe and engaging space for writers at all stages of the writing process, and we aim to provide the creative inspiration, individual attention, and intellectual environment that may not be available to them at school.

What Interns Do

Our workshops are age-based (7 to 18 years old), small groups of kids and teens who are challenged to set and achieve writing goals in a fun and engaging way. Interns serve as role models to our young writers by helping them develop their confidence and cultivate a love for writing. While in workshop, interns provide typing, editorial, and overall support for our writers. For our summer day camp programming, interns support and lead electives (doing everything from leading literary games in the park to supporting a songwriting session) and engage with and guide our writers throughout the day.
