Description

Writopia Lab, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that runs creative writing workshops for kids and teens, ages 6-18, is looking for a talented and focused Associate Program Manager for our Tenleytown, DC location. Writopia Lab is a mission-driven organization, and the people on our administrative team are no less committed to our mission than our workshop leaders and executives.

We are looking for an experienced Associate Program Manager to undertake a variety of administrative and program management duties. You will help in planning and organizing programs and activities as well as carry out important operational duties. To be an excellent program coordinator, you must be organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with diverse teams. The goal will be to facilitate the effective management of programs according to the organization’s standards. This is a full-time, overtime-exempt position. Though there will be some overtime required, the vast majority of weeks will be 40 hours, Tuesday through Saturday.

Responsibilities:

  • Support planning and coordination of a program and its activities.

  • Ensure implementation of policies and practices.

  • Manage communications through media relations, social media etc.

  • Help build positive relations within the team and external parties.

  • Schedule and organize meetings/events and maintain agenda.

  • Ensure technology is used correctly for all operations.

  • Prepare paperwork and order material.

  • Keep updated records and create reports or proposals.

  • Support growth and program development.

  • Lead or support regional and national projects as requested.

  • Facilitate weekly writing workshops at Writopia Lab and in schools.

  • Serve as office manager on Saturdays.

  • Participate and support regional marketing events for Writopia Lab.

  • Serve as a core Writopia Sleepaway Camp Instructor (a two-week commitment).

 

Requirements.

  • Proven experience as program coordinator in arts education or related

  • Knowledge of program management and development procedures

  • Tech savvy, proficient in Google docs

  • Ability to work with diverse and multi-discipline teams

  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

  • Detail oriented and efficient

  • MFA or Masters in Literature or Education preferred

  • Experience teaching creative writing instruction preferred
     

This person needs to be comfortable wearing multiple hats as the role requires exemplary customer service experience as well as project management and teaching experience. We are looking for someone who is warm, patient, and most importantly committed to helping kids from all backgrounds find their authentic voice as writers and storytellers.

Most job listings mention strong writing skills as a requirement, but the stakes are a little higher here because we are writing educators; written communication is a critical skill for all employees at Writopia.
