Description

Writopia Lab, an award-winning 501(C)(3) nonprofit that runs the country's best creative writing workshops for kids ages six to 18, is looking for a Senior HR Associate for our Upper West Side Location. Writopia Lab is a mission-driven organization, and the people on our administrative team are no less committed to our mission than our workshop leaders and executives. Though this is a non-teaching position, it is important that you be truly moved by what Writopia Lab does and the way we do it.

We require five years or more professional experience in Human Resources and you will need to be sensitive to issues of privacy, have comfort with online databases, and to be able to wrap your head around the complex legal issues related to overtime and handling personnel information. Familiarity with the ADP TotalSourceinformation systems is a plus.

Though your tasks will be many and varied, you will be part of a family-run, family-oriented organization. This is position can be structured as a part-time position or as a full-time overtime-exempt position with benefits (as specified below). In your cover letter, please address which structure would work best for you and why.

Written Communication

Most job listings mention this, but the stakes are a little higher here: because we are writing educators, written communication is a critical skill for all employees at Writopia Lab.

Human Resources

The majority of your job will be focused on Human Resources-related tasks, including but not limited to:

  • recruiting new employees and contractors,
  • onboarding new employees and contractors,
  • offboarding employees and contractors,
  • creating and maintaining human resources records,
  • providing employment verifications, and
  • explaining benefit programs to employees.

A crucial part of the Senior HR Associate job involves maintaining manager and employee confidence by keeping human resources information confidential.

Operations

We will rely on you to make sure the team schedule is accurate, and to keep our operations in seven states registered with various state agencies. We need someone who stays engaged no matter how large or small the task, who sees the big picture, nails the details, and who has a good sense for what the big questions are and what stuff not to sweat.

References

We will call your references, and we will need at least one of your professional references to tell us more than whether or not he or she would re-hire you.

Compensation

Salary range for the full-time position is between $58,000 and $62,000 annually. Benefits for full-time employees include the following:

  • five personal days per year,
  • ten vacation days per year (increases over time),
  • medical coverage (Writopia Lab pays 93% of premiums),
  • employee-funded dental insurance,
  • employee-funded vision insurance,
  • employee-funded 401K,
  • employee-funded flexible spending accounts,
  • free writing workshops for your kids.
